Beginning in May, Grand Strand Youth Hockey will offer Summer Pick-Up Hockey sessions every Thursday night at The Market Common rink.

Sessions will run from 6:30-9 p.m. each week beginning Thursday, May 29, 2025, and run through Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025.

These sessions will be run loosely with players dropping in as they are available, however to help all ages and skill levels get the most out of their time, the sessions will be structured as such:

6:30 - 7:15 p.m. - Open Skate & Shootaround
Designed for Novice Skaters and potential Learn to Play Participants ages 4-9. This will be 45 minutes of unstructured Open Skate & Shootaround session. No direct instruction or drills will be planned, however coaches or organizers from GSYH will be present.
7 - 8 p.m. - Intermediate Player Pick-Up
Designed for Intermediate Skaters and potential Mites League Participants ages 6-12. This will be 15 minutes of shootaround/warm-up, followed by 45 minutes of pick-up hockey where players split into teams and scrimmage.
8-9 p.m. - Experienced Player Pick-up
Designed for Experience Skaters and potential Juniors League Participations ages 11-17. This will consist of a brief warm-up (5-10 minutes), followed by the remaining part of the hour filled with pick-up hockey.

All sessions are free to attend and open to all players ages 4-17. No experience is necessary and participation in the league is not required for these open sessions.

Summer skates are designed to be a fun way for new players to try hockey and to keep current players skating throughout the off-season. Coaches and organizers from GSYH will be on hand for all sessions, and will do our best to match-up lines of players with similar skill levels.

First time playing?

We're always looking for new players to join our league. If you're new to the area or interested in playing hockey for the first time, these summer skates are perfect for you!

Prospective players interested in skating may borrow equipment from the GSYH trailer to join our summer skates. We cannot guarantee all sizes and types of equipment, but will do our best to get your player geared up and ready to skate.

If you have not participated in our league in the past, a parent will be required to sign a waiver before skating with us for the first time.
